Water and Sanitation Project
(A) : Installation of Arsenic-free Deep Tube-well for Bagdi (indigenous) community and operating 4 skill development training:
Char SilamotpurBagdipara (District-Magura, Subdistrict-Mahammadpur) where the proposed project has been introducing is a very remote and backyard area and the target beneficiaries called Bagdi are an ethnic minority under the Hindu religion, they are socially & economically disadvantaged, hardcore poor and underprivileged. A number of 68 Bagdi families living there, having a large number of children. The Bagdipara situated beside the Beel (Lake), where have no safe drinking water supply and sanitation facilities. No Tube-well for water supply. So the Bagdi community is depending on beel-water for their traditional uses, cooking & washing, generally, the beel-water made impure most of the time.
The Bagdi community brings safe drinking water from the tube-well far 1km distance that meet-up their minimum needs. Due to their unavailable for safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, the Bagdi community had been suffering various water-borne diseases. So, considering the above fact, we intended to construct an Arsenic-free deep Tube-well for safe drinking water supplies and operating 4 skill development training for creating intensive awareness regarding safe drinking water, personal health, and hygienic & environmental sanitation among the 68 Bagdi families.
Total Beneficiaries 524 men, women, and children are indigenous and backward classes in society. The project is implemented by the assistance of the Japan Water Forum Fund (JWF), Japan

(B): Water and Sanitation project :
BASCO Foundation received grants from Japan Water Forum (JWF) Fund, Japan, and has been implemented the project in 2017-2018.
The project site is at Roygram where there is a non-government private primary school under the Magura district. There are 40 disadvantaged students. The school has no government facilities including hygienic latrine and safe drinking water. Naturally, boy’s students are defecating at an open field and but girls are facing problems to defecate at an open field. Due to the fact, the causes of drop-out of the girl’s student and their parents discourage increasing day today. As a result, girls are depreciating from boys. So student’s mothers come to the school with their child and stay around the school time. But they have no defecation facility. So both of them are affected by water-borne diseases and the environment going to polluted. Based on the consideration of the above fact, we have decided to ensure environmental sanitation and safe water facilities through the construction of a sanitary latrine & hand tub-well and developing skill among the SMC, guardians, teachers, and students with the financial support of JWF. Now the situation of Roygram primary school has been changed. The student’s attendance is increased, all are practices safe sanitation and safe drinking water, as for water-borne disease has reduced. As a result, the school has led to a healthy environment.
